The subject of our first meeting on March 28th–29th, is “Chemistry’s Role in the Brain Initiative, in part because of our community’s emerging interest in the National Institutes of Health’s “Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies” (BRAIN) Initiative and the apparent or likely opportunity for chemistry to impact it. Here at JHU, there are already considerable research efforts in this direction, with a Krieger School Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, an associated Center for Imaging Science, The Zanvyl Krieger Mind/Brain Institute, the prominent JHU School of Medicine Department of Neuroscience, and the JHU Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute (with participating scientists from 14 JHU departments).
